CHEM 285 Biochemistry with Lab

Description

This course provides students with a fundamental understanding of current concepts in biochemistry and molecular biology. It offers a detailed examination of the structure, function, and metabolism of amino acids, carbohydrates, lipids, and nucleic acids. It examines techniques used to study biochemistry and molecular biology within the context of major biological processes such as DNA replication, transcription, translation, DNA repair, mutations, cell cycle, and signal transduction. This course focuses on applications to dentistry and helps students understand how biomolecules work to carry out the myriad of tasks in cells and utilize the unifying chemical logic that underlines life in all its great diversity. Reinforcing content covered in the class lectures, laboratory activities include biochemistry and molecular biology techniques relevant to biomolecules, acids, bases, pH, and buffers.
